Description

This Course is designed to help you grow your skills and confidence through regular practice while discovering and developing your own personal artistic style using watercolours.

How each session works:
Each week begins with a short introduction to the artist whose approach we’re exploring, followed by examples of their use of colour, composition, and mark-making. You’ll start with gentle warm-up exercises inspired by their style, then create an artwork using the demonstrated techniques while making it your own. Individual guidance is provided throughout to help you adapt ideas to your own artistic voice.

All the classes and workshops are relaxing, enjoyable, and fun, held in a supportive and encouraging environment where exploration, experimentation and practice are the key elements to learning and understanding this medium.

Covering: Brush control and expressive strokes; Water control, washes, and layering; Colour mixing and harmonious palettes; Wet-on-Wet; Wet-on-Dry; Atmospheric effects and texture; Light, value, and depth; Composition, focal points, and flow; Overall, the personality of watercolours.

What to bring:

  • Your own watercolours, watercolour paper, brushes, and palettes. Highly recommend using artist-quality paints and paper for the best results — they give richer colour, better layering, and allow you to fully enjoy the techniques we explore. If you would like to purchase your own paints etc, please email Julie and she will send you a list of colours, brushes, brands, papers and where to purchase.

  • Optional: Use the studio’s student paints and Arches watercolour paper, for an additional $50 for the duration of the course.

What’s supplied:

·       Tea, Coffee and biscuits

·       Special materials for experimentation, such as salt, cling wrap, and other texture-enhancing techniques.

NOTES:

  1. The Studio is above the Golf Club building at Quamby Estate (see photo reference).

  2. Park your car in the car park on the left as you drive in.

  3. There are 17 stairs to the studio.

  4. There is one bathroom which is downstairs.

  5. Your booking will be confirmed once payment is received.

Over the 6 weeks, you’ll enjoy a creative, supportive environment where your skills and confidence will grow, and you’ll explore a variety of artistic approaches and techniques that form a strong foundation for your watercolour practice.
